Professional Translation Services

The Portuguese language is a big part of my musical life. I achieved a high level of fluency in the language many years ago, and it has been one of my great passions. My body of work as a songwriter includes many compositions with my own original Portuguese lyrics. I write and sing songs that fall into many styles, including samba-jazz, bossa-nova, MPB, and Portuguese Fado, the traditional music of Portugal. It has been my great pleasure to perform and record in Brazil with many talented musicians, as well as with wonderful Brazilian and Portuguese musicians here in the United States.

The translation of musical materials requires the knowledge of a specialist. My work encompasses all types of translation for musical artists from Brazilian or European Portuguese into my native English. These include books, articles, resumes, bios, websites, CD liner notes, song lyrics, press releases, transcripts, reviews, advertisements, blogs, librettos, subtitles, and more. I also prepare and translate all documents required by the USA for an Artist Visa. These visas may be awarded to musicians, composers, artists, photographers, writers, actors, directors, producers, crafters, designers, or practitioners of martial, culinary or aesthetic arts.

I am a college music professor with a doctoral degree, as well as an accredited English teacher with a TESOL certificate. Clients can be assured of my credentials, and that my translations will meet the highest professional standards of accuracy.  My fees are standard: $0.10 per word, with $25 per page options available, or other discounted bulk rates, which may be agreed upon in advance. All international payments are made through PayPal or TransferWise. Domestic payments are made through Venmo.

Testimonials

"Some years ago, I needed help translating my resume for a career opportunity in a multinational company in the oil and gas industry, and Melanie was able to help me.  I was hired and, after some years, transferred to the USA (where I am now). Having a well-translated resume was the initial kick-start that made the difference my hiring, which in the end, led me to fulfill my dream of working outside Brazil."

"Dr. Mitrano demonstrates a high degree of grammatical knowledge. In her translations, and even in conversation, her performance and skill in using her language ability is notorious.  Her work in proofreading, translating, organizing, and even mediating in the process of my O-1 Visa, were fundamental to my success, and I was approved in 2019. I recommend Dr. Mitrano's work in all professional aspects.  She is highly qualified, talented and dedicated. "

Gerson Galante, soloist, Jazz Sinfônica Brasil, O-1 Visa Holder

"It's not easy to find someone who has the ability to write and translate texts, and obey grammatical rules, all with good taste and poetic flair.  To find a professional who, in addition to having such writing skills, is also a master of musical composition, is very rare. I had the great privilege of having Melanie write English lyrics for a song of mine, "Lara," with great literary care and musical sensitivity. It is not an easy task to write lyrics for syncopated music, as it requires a great knowledge of prosody to "fit" the words into the irregular rhythm of samba. But Melanie managed to comply with these technical requirements, while maintaining the poetic lightness of the lyrics.   A real artist."
